Some great news coming out of Hollywood today as a slew of new reboots have been announced. Some are planned to begin production in the next month. To be honest I can’t be happier to hear of all of these reboots.
BACK TO THE FUTURE
According to The Hollywood Reporter, J.J. Abrams has shown a considerable amount of interest in rebooting the Marty McFly trilogy. Abrams said, “As a 19-year old kid I wanted nothing more than to travel back in time. I wanted so badly to be Marty.”
When asked where he saw the new trilogy going Abrams replied, “I’m hoping to make it a little darker. Marty’s parents would be very abusive towards Marty and Marty’s only friend and confidant is Doc Brown who is insane. Not comically insane like in the original but tragically insane, much like Nikola Tesla in his last days. Marty will travel back in time to find out what happened in his parents lives that made them become the monsters they are today. Deep down he loves them and wants them to love him too. I think this will add new insight into the mind of Marty.”
I don’t know about you guys but that sounds brilliant. I think we can all trust J.J. Abrams to create a great alternate world for our beloved characters. Production is set to begin next April.

J.J. Abrams on Star Trek Set
I love Rocky. I love Rambo. I love Lethal Weapon. And guess what, I enjoyed aaaalllll of their sequels. Has this revelation lowered my approval ratings to Barack Obama levels? Let’s hope not. Wait, not hope. I try not to use that word anymore.
Basically I’m a sucker for a sequel. I like movie adaptations of television shows. Who else is excited about the A-Team movie? What I don’t like are reboots and remakes.
For me the worst movie of last year was Star Trek. The world glorified this second coming of James T. Kirk as if Chris Pine were Jesus Christ himself. I’ll give J.J. My-TV-Shows-Start-Off-Good-And-Turn-To-Shit-By-Season-3 Abrams credit for making a film with amazing visuals. The movie was fun and would have been even better if had he respected Gene Roddenberry instead of taking his characters and raped them. That’s right, I said rape. I felt violated after I left the theater. I can only imagine how the characters felt.

What does it say about our generation that every time there is a “reimagining” of a classic character they are always sloven frat boys that are too smart for their own good. How is that cool? You know what’s cool? Keeping your room clean. That’s cool.
Take Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot. My childhood is littered with fond memories of seeing the original Star Trek films in theaters and reruns of the old show. Sure Captain Kirk was a bit of rebel but he was dependable and would gladly risk his life for his crew. Then here comes Abrams and his reimagining. The new Kirk is useless. He seems more at home in a bar than in the captain’s chair of the Enterprise.
The same is true for Guy Ritchie’s reimagining of Sherlock Holmes. Robert Downey Jr. plays the brilliant consulting detective, while Jude Law fills in as the faithful sidekick Dr. Watson. Holmes is dirty. A drunk. Self-centered. Snooty. Violent (Takes out his “companion’s” snub on street brawlers by breaking their jaws and ribs.)
