I agree it would be tough for the first two, especially a TV channel,
but I think that newspapers need to branch out and become more media
news centers with a wide gamut of mediums at their disposal. They need
to bring quality to these realms. They're not branching out fast enough.

Craigslist is only the standard now for so many things because if it's
ease of use and the fact that no one is competing with them. But no
one actually likes using Craigslist. It is a pain in the ass.
PaperList would provide quality and with an increased user experience
people will flock to it in time. Tey could adopt a similar price
structure to that of Craigslist where the little things are free but
jobs, real estate ads have a small fee attached. Quality user
experience is the way to take down Craigslist. You have to admit it's
a shitty place to visit. But newspapers would have the ability to
maintain some order, structure and quality by putting eyes on every
post.

Thanks for the comments.

That 'investigate' step does seem like a good compromise for our modern journalism industry. The others certainly don't appear 'easy' if you were serious about titling the blog that. For Paperlist, the simple fact that you can post an ad for free (such as an employer seeking work) will always keep Craigslist as a preference for businesses/employers needing to save money. The 24 hour news idea is such a viscous beast in terms of production and consistency that it could never really be achieved.

Speaking from the perspective of having worked in medium-circulation daily newsrooms for four years, one of the more unsolvable problems with the news industry is its detachment to the community. The objective distance journalists presuppose upon themselves has led to a stunted communication. The community's distrust or scorn of the paper becomes more difficult to overcome with each article that misinterprets the story it was given to convey. Journalist Chris Hedges wrote a wonderful story explaining this and other problems here:
http://www.commondreams.org/view/2010/02/01-8
