Season 8 of 24 started last Sunday and hour 5 is tonight. I have been so busy that I only watched the first two hours last night. And Jack didn’t let me down. He took out two guys at once using an axe and a staircase. Guy number one took the axe to the chest and guy number two fell eight floors to his death.
Other than that it’s moving a little slow. Season 8 didn’t start with the same explosive beginning as other seasons. The first season started with a plane crash. Another season started with the assassination of President Palmer. A third with Jack struggling with his heroin addiction but this season started with a dude running from a sniper. A clear step down from the past. However, I’m not counting out the 24 writers. They never fail to surprise me.
This season takes place in New York and CTU New York is pretty impressive. Although it looks more like a hip advertising company than Jack Bauer’s house of torture.
Based on the slow beginning I’m assuming they have something big up their sleeve. Hopefully it’s the death of Kim Bauer. For those of you that watch 24 you know what an annoying character Kim is. Plus she’s the only thing holding Jack back. Imagine a world where Jack Bauer had nothing to lose. Just think of what he could accomplish in 24 hours.
The weirdest change this season is the cast. Actually, I want to amend my first paragraph to now state that 24 season openers are always shocking and this season is no different. I can sum it up in three words: Freddie Prinze, Jr.
I didn’t watch many previews for the season or read any stories because I didn’t want to spoil anything. So my first shock of the season was me saying, “What the fuck, Freddie Prinze? What the hell is Scooby Doo gonna do for Jack.”
Maybe if we’re lucky Freddie will shoot Kim in the face and Jack will go berserk and torture him for 20 of this season’s 24 hours. The last kid that tried to partner up with Jack lost his hand, so we can at least expect that Jack will top that this season. Anything less than a leg is an indication that the show has lost its touch.
I have two questions:
1. How many people will Jack Bauer kill this season?
2. How many people will survive but lose a limb to Jack?
