I’m behind. Like really far behind on my movie watching. I’m so far behind that I’m in serious danger of getting my beard shaved off by the movie Gods.
What haven’t I seen you ask? (You may not have said it out loud but I know you were thinking it.)
AVATAR
Sure the movie has only been out a few days but in the movie addicted world that I live in, 2 days is like 30 years. Just ask any alcoholic what it feels like the first two days they don’t have a drink. Well, I’ll tell you. There’s shaking, sweating and getting up in the middle of the night to vomit. All I need is a fix. A good fix. Fortunately I’ll get that fix soon.
UP IN THE AIR
I first saw this trailer a month ago. I came across it on my daily trailer search over at Apple. And I was slightly dismissive. It looked like a romantic comedy about a guy who travels. Which it kind of is. But obviously with more depth. I can’t pretend to analyze from a preview but I can say that it looks better and better everytime I see it. I’ve been avoiding reviews because I don’t want anything to ruin it for me.
SHERLOCK HOLMES
I love Robert Downey, Jr. He’s a great actor. No one can deny that. I saw the new preview for Iron Man 2 and I’m a little embarrassed by how excited I became. I am a little worried that Downey is becoming too much of a movie star. He’s a great actor who obviously makes a great leading man and superstar but he has the ability to make great roles come to life and I’d hate to see that wasted on action movies, no matter how smart they may be.
CRAZY HEART
Crazy Heart is about a country singer, Jeff Bridges, who’s been riding hard for a long time and meets a journalist, Maggie Gyllenhaal, who sees the man he really is.
The preview just blows me away. It appears to be a subdued drama and character. Something that is missing from most Hollywood films today.
NINE
If Daniel Day-Lewis is in a movie I will go see it. I don’t care if it is a musical or if it’s a documentary about his years as a cobbler. Count me in. Nine is a musical retelling of Felini’s 8 1/2. Everyone is in it: Judi Dench, Fergie (Why?), Kate Hudson, Penelope Cruz (I love you), and Nicole Kidman.
Now, I’m about to say something that will probably anger a lot of people. Most of you will call me an idiot and never read any of my reviews again but I want to be honest, so here goes: I didn’t like 8 1/2.
There I’ve said it. What’re you gonna do?
That’s my list. Is there anything I’ve left off? Anything that you think I should add? And maybe tell me why I should like 8 1/2. Everyone tells me I should but never why. Help me out.
